Joint Injection Therapy in Fort Worth, TX
Is Joint Injection Therapy Painful?
The procedure does involve the insertion of a needle through the skin, so some patients will report some very mild discomfort. Local anesthetic is used to numb the area of injection and lessen the pain associated with puncture. During the injection, it is possible to feel a little pain in the back or buttock region when the top of the needle comes in contact with the bones of the sacroiliac bone.
The medical doctor at Valiant Life Medical will be as gentle as possible around these painful areas to ensure the injection is as pain free as possible. Most patients tolerate this procedure without significant pain or discomfort.
How Long Does it Take to Feel Relief from Pain Following the Injection?
While the time it takes to feel pain relief may vary from person to person, most of our patients will feel immediate pain relief due to the anesthetic medication. This provides a partial numbing effect to the joint and surrounding painful structures. The injection is a strong anti-inflammatory used to treat any inflammation in the joint. However, reducing inflammation takes time after the anesthetic wears off. It can take 2-3 days until the injections start to provide some pain relief. The injections will reach their maximum effect between 7-14 days.
